FAQ's

1. Will the project reduce the amount of Parking in Windermere?
No. Overall the length of parking will increase by some 26m. A detail of each location is attached below:-

Crescent Road
Existing length of car parking bays: 118m.
Proposed length of car parking bays: 112m.

Main Road
Although the Dual Use spaces (cars/taxis) are being moved within the new layout adjacent to the mini-roundabout at the top of Main Road, there is no net increase/decrease in car parking space.

High Street
North end - no change.
South end. An extra 24m of kerbside parking on the south side has been introduced to the north of the environmental enhancements on the junction with Elleray Road.

A591 Church Street
Existing parking south side: 82m.
Proposed parking south side: 58m
Proposed parking north side: 32

2. When will the scheme be finished?
The scheme will be finished in late May though the intention is to have traffic running along the newly paved Crescent Road by the end of April.

3. Will Crescent Road work be closed during the Easter holiday? WHen will work be re-started?
Crescent Road works will be stopped during the Easter holidays with Crescent Road open for access to the shops and parking areas. Works will re-commence on 31st March 2008.

4. Why are excavations appearing in the newly laid surfacing?
United Utilities are in the process of repairing leaks on water mains. Unfortunately they are trying to locate a leak under the new pavement.

5. Is Crescent Road to be pedestrianised? Will College Road remain one-way?
No. Crescent Road will be open as it was prior to works starting with one-way traffic. Main Road will revert to being one-way to take traffic North. College Road will become a two-way road again.

6. Is free on-street parking being retained?
Yes. The amount of free on-street parking in the centre of the village will be the same as before, although it will be positioned slightly differently.

7. What's the point of the new mini-roundabout at the junction of Crescent Road and Victoria Street?
This will make it possible for traffic from Booths car park to get back onto the A591 without clogging up Crescent Road and Main Road - they will be able to turn right at the bottom of Victoria Street and leave on Elleray Road or back up High Steet.

8. What is the point in changing the A591 junction, without putting in a roundabout?
The changes to this junction will make it easier and safer to use, by improving sightlines and reducing excessive speed through the junction.

9. When will the work be finished?
We just don't know for certain - bad weather, emergency utility works, problems with raw materials delivery and a hundred-and-one other issues make it difficult to be absolutely certain when the work will be finished.

10. Come on, you must have an idea when the work will be over!
Hopefully the work will be finished in May - but the worst of the disruption could be over before then, as the finishing touches of the new benches, planters and lighting should be installed withought too much aggravation.
